They&#8217;re nature-pictorialists &#8211; and the first two cuts set the scene for their intended approach nicely. There&#8217;s &#8216;Bird Valley&#8217; with its weird, low soaring drones and added birdsong sound effects and assorted wobbly mis-shapes thrown on top; followed immediately by &#8216;Phantom Ship&#8217;, which is mostly dominated by the motor sound of this strange aerial craft as it flies overhead, flashing occasional warning lights and with blips sounding on the radar. These two basic approaches proceed to more or less repeat themselves with variations over the remaining 9 cuts. With titles like &#8216;Creaking Wood in Moonlight&#8217; and &#8216;Capricom Beetle&#8217;, there&#8217;s virtually no need for me to describe anything that&#8217;s going on &#8211; these artists, Floris Sirag and Peter Veenstra, have a very strong pictorial-narrative intent, and it&#8217;s backed up completely by the photo- collages on the covers &#8211; full moons, planet Earth. flying moth-beetle hybrids, dried Autumn leaves &#8211; and the short poetic texts (not recited) printed here to unpack further meaning from the mood-pieces. While these pseudo-fairyland-soundscapes have tremendous charm, they can also be a bit inconsequential &#8211; they drift in and out again and don&#8217;t leave much impression afterwards. But while you&#8217;re there, it&#8217;s an enjoyable sojourn in a country filled with odd machinery that doesn&#8217;t quite work, populated by singing insects that behave in unpredictable fashion, and menageries of wild animals purring as they lick their strange-coloured fur. It&#8217;s agreeable to hear a gentle, non-aggressive and co-operative approach to making this sort of music- clearly they don&#8217;t feel the need to resort to &#8216;nasty&#8217; sounds, loud volume or full-on playing to get our attention &#8211; and there&#8217;s not an ambient clich\u00e9 in sight. Deze roterende factor roept natuurlijk vergelijkingen op met Berrocal of Spoke. Maar de knappe manier waarop de akoestische geluiden worden ingevoegd doet ook denken aan het oudere werk van Zoviet France of artistiek verantwoorde afvalverwerkers als SARDH. Het eigen universum van Mommur Chasma komt op deze cd tot uiting via het artwork (vliegende kevers werpen hun onheilspellende schaduw over Aarde en Maan) en geflipte titels als 'Zeeverdoving' of 'Fluistergewelf. Dit soort onverwachte parel(spanner)s lift de slaafse arbeid van uw recensent op tot een spirituele ervaring! (pv) [Gonzo Circus Recensie]\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n\r\nHeel aardig, innemend en eigenzinnig electro-acoustisch werk van dit Nederlandse duo dat hun wortels heeft in een eerdere groep genaamd Indra Karmuka. Ze zijn natuur-beschrijvers - en de eerste twee stukken zetten aardig de toon voor hun vooropgezette benadering. Zo is daar 'Vogelvallei' met zijn bizarre, laag zoemende gedreun en toegevoegde vogelzang geluidseffecten en bijpassende schommelende misvormingen er bovenop geplaatst; onmiddellijk gevolgd door 'Spookschip', dat voornamelijk wordt gedomineerd door het motorgeluid van een vreemd soort luchtvaartuig dat overvliegt, welke af en toe waarschuwingslichten laat opflitsen, en met bliepgeluiden die op de radar klinken. Deze twee basisbenaderingen vervolgen of herhalen zich min of meer met variaties over de resterende 9 stukken. Met titels als 'Krakend bos in Maanlicht' en 'Boktor', is er vrijwel geen noodzaak voor mij om te beschrijven waar het over gaat - deze kunstenaars, Floris Sirag en Peter Veenstra, hebben een zeer sterke schilder-verhalende bedoeling, en het wordt volledig ondersteund door de foto-collages op de hoes - volle manen, planeet aarde, vliegende mot-kever hybriden, gedroogde herfstbladeren - en de korte poetische teksten (niet voorgedragen) die hierbij worden afgedrukt om de verdere betekenis van de stemmings-stukken te ontvouwen. Terwijl deze pseudo-sprookjeswereld-klanklandschappen een enorme charme hebben, kunnen zij ook een beetje inconsequent zijn - zij komen en gaan en laten achteraf niet veel indruk achter. Maar terwijl je er bent, is het een plezierig tijdelijk verblijf in een land gevuld met vreemde machines die niet helemaal werken, bevolkt door zingende insecten die zich op een onvoorspelbare manier gedragen, en een beestenspel van wilde dieren die spinnen terwijl zij hun vreemd-gekleurde vacht likken. Het is aangenaam om een zachte, niet agressieve en samengerichte benadering van dit soort muziek te horen - ze hebben duidelijk niet de behoefte om hun toevlucht te nemen tot 'venijnige' geluiden, luid volume of voluit spelen om onze aandacht te krijgen - en er is geen ambient clich\u00e9 te bekennen. This rotating factor evokes of course natural comparisons with Berrocal or Spoke. But the neat manner on which the acoustic sounds are inserted does also remind of the older work by Zoviet France or artistic justified trashprocessors like SARDH. The own universe of Mommur Chasma comes on this cd to expression via the artwork (flying beetles throw their ominous shadow over Earth and Moon) and freaked-out titles like 'Seanumbing' or 'Whisperdome. These kind of unexpected pearl(spinner)s elevates the slavishly work of your critic on to a spiritual experience! (pv) [Gonzo Circus Review]\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n\r\nQuite nice, engaging and idiosyncratic electro-acoustic work from this Dutch duo who have their roots in an earlier group called Indra Karmuka. They're nature-pictorialists - and the first two cuts set the scene for their intended approach nicely. There's 'Bird Valley' with its weird, low soaring drones and added birdsong sound effects and assorted wobbly mis-shapes thrown on top; followed immediately by 'Phantom Ship', which is mostly dominated by the motor sound of this strange aerial craft as it flies overhead, flashing occasional warning lights and with blips sounding on the radar. These two basic approaches proceed to more or less repeat themselves with variations over the remaining 9 cuts. With titles like 'Creaking Wood in Moonlight' and 'Capricom Beetle', there's virtually no need for me to describe anything that's going on - these artists, Floris Sirag and Peter Veenstra, have a very strong pictorial-narrative intent, and it's backed up completely by the photo- collages on the covers - full moons, planet Earth. flying moth-beetle hybrids, dried Autumn leaves - and the short poetic texts (not recited) printed here to unpack further meaning from the mood-pieces. While these pseudo-fairyland-soundscapes have tremendous charm, they can also be a bit inconsequential - they drift in and out again and don't leave much impression afterwards. But while you're there, it's an enjoyable sojourn in a country filled with odd machinery that doesn't quite work, populated by singing insects that behave in unpredictable fashion, and menageries of wild animals purring as they lick their strange-coloured fur. It's agreeable to hear a gentle, non-aggressive and co-operative approach to making this sort of music- clearly they don't feel the need to resort to 'nasty' sounds, loud volume or full-on playing to get our attention - and there's not an ambient clich\u00e9 in sight.
